• IEEE – the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers with its headquarters in New York City, U.S.A. – it included a set of 31 technical groups to span its range of technical interests, and a set of 10 regions to span the geographic distribution of members. Region 7 was Canada.
• EIC – the Engineering Institute of Canada with its headquarters in Montreal – it had members in various disciplines. Civil engineers comprised the largest number of members, and electrical engineers one of the smallest.
• IEE – Institution of Electrical Engineers with its headquarters in London, England – a licensing body for British electrical engineers with members abroad in countries with a British Commonwealth history and strong ties back to the “homeland”.

There was no single Canadian organization for electrical engineering. As is the case with many corporations in North America, the main Canadian operation was a branch plant of one headquartered in the United States.
